How long will your vial last?
The amount left in the vial and the amount used per dose determine how many full doses remain. Your schedule turns that count into dates. Use the values from your existing plan.
Count full doses
Put the vial amount and dose in the same unit, then divide. Round down: a remainder smaller than your dose cannot cover another full dose.
full doses = floor(amount remaining ÷ dose)
Map the count to your calendar
The first dose is on your chosen start date. The last covered dose is one interval before the next dose your supply cannot cover.
last covered date = start + (full doses − 1) × interval
Keep the label date separate
The calculation counts supply. Storage conditions and the discard date on your pharmacy or manufacturer label still apply, even if the arithmetic says there are more doses left.
Example: 5 mg left, 250 mcg per dose, every day
5 mg is 5,000 mcg. At 250 mcg per dose, the vial covers 20 full doses. Starting September 2, the final covered dose is September 21 and the first uncovered dose is September 22. These are example values, not a dosing recommendation.
Common questions
How many doses are in a 5 mg vial?
Divide 5,000 mcg by the amount in each dose. For an entered dose of 250 mcg, that is 20 full doses. The vial size alone does not tell you how long it lasts; you also need your schedule.
Does the amount of water change how many doses I have?
Adding water changes the concentration and the liquid volume per dose. It does not change the total mass in the vial. The supply calculation uses mass, so you do not need to enter the water volume.
Can I calculate a partly used vial?
Yes. Enter the amount remaining, rather than the original label amount. The calculation assumes that amount is available to draw and does not estimate syringe waste or other losses.
Does this account for a changing dose?
This calculator uses one dose and a fixed interval in whole days. Recalculate when either changes. The calendar download follows those entered dates and has no time-of-day alarms.
Can I use every calculated dose before the vial expires?
The tool cannot establish that. Compare the supply dates with the storage instructions and discard date supplied with your vial. A supply estimate does not extend that date.
