Paces and splits come from the values you enter. Terrain, weather, stops, and fitness can change your race-day result. Calculations run in your browser.

Turn a finish time into a plan you can read on the run

Choose the number you want to find: pace, finish time, or distance. The other two do the math. Your split table shows both the time for each section and the elapsed time to look for at each marker.

Calculate your average pace

Divide your finish time by the distance. Pace is a duration per kilometer or mile; speed is distance per hour.

pace = finish time ÷ distance

Choose even or negative splits

Even splits keep the same pace throughout. For a negative split, choose how much less time the second half should take than the first. The overall finish time stays the same.

Keep the last partial split

A marathon is 42.195 km. The table includes the final partial kilometer or mile and rounds elapsed times first, so the displayed split times still add up to your finish time.

Example: a 25-minute 5K

25 minutes divided by 5 km gives 5:00 per kilometer, about 8:03 per mile. With even splits, the kilometer markers read 5:00, 10:00, 15:00, 20:00, and 25:00. Download the table to keep the whole plan.

Common questions

What pace do I need for a four-hour marathon?

A four-hour marathon averages about 5:41 per kilometer or 9:09 per mile. Select Marathon and enter 4:00:00 to see the full split table, including the final partial split.

How do I convert pace per mile to pace per kilometer?

A mile is 1.609344 km. Divide seconds per mile by 1.609344 to get seconds per kilometer. The result panel shows both so you can use either set of course markers.

What does a 2% negative split mean here?

The second half takes 2% less time than the first half. It is a comparison of half times, not a two-percentage-point change in speed. The calculator adjusts both halves to preserve your entered finish time.

Does this predict a race result?

It calculates from the time, distance, or pace you enter. It does not assess your current fitness or account for hills, weather, aid-station stops, or training history.

Can I calculate a custom distance?

Yes. Enter your distance in kilometers or miles, or choose one of the race shortcuts. The table supports runs up to 500 km.
